How To Ask For Google Reviews

Most customers are happy to leave a review — they just need to be asked at the right moment, in the right words, with a link that opens in one tap. Here are the scripts.

Four rules before you ask

Ask everyone, not just happy customers

Google's policy forbids review gating — filtering out unhappy customers before you ask. Offer the same request to every customer.

Never pay for a review

Discounts, free items or entries into a giveaway in exchange for a review violate Google's terms and can get your reviews removed.

Ask at the peak moment

Right after you've delivered the result and the customer is visibly pleased. Wait a day and the response rate drops sharply.

Make it one step

Every extra tap costs you reviews. A tap card or counter stand opens your Google review page instantly, no searching required.

Scripts by industry

Say it out loud once or twice so it sounds like you. Swap in your own names and keep it under fifteen seconds.

Restaurant / cafe

Best moment

When you drop the check or hand over the card machine.

“So glad you enjoyed it tonight. If you have ten seconds, tap your phone here and it opens our Google page — reviews are how people find us.”

Hair salon / barbershop

Best moment

At the mirror, right after the reveal.

“Love how that turned out. Would you mind leaving a quick Google review? Just tap your phone on this card and it opens right up.”

Dental / medical practice

Best moment

At the front desk while scheduling the next visit.

“Thanks for coming in today. If Dr. Lee took good care of you, a short Google review really helps other patients choose us — tap here and it opens.”

Auto shop

Best moment

At handover, keys in hand.

“You’re all set. Honest feedback helps us more than anything — tap your phone on this card and leave us a Google review whenever you get a minute.”

Home services / contractor

Best moment

During the final walkthrough.

“Before I head out — most of our work comes from Google. If you’re happy with the job, would you tap here and leave a review? Takes about thirty seconds.”

Gym / studio

Best moment

After a member hits a milestone or finishes a great class.

“That was a strong session. If the gym’s been working for you, tap this at the desk and drop us a Google review — it helps us grow the community.”

Retail

Best moment

At checkout while bagging the purchase.

“Thanks so much. If we made it easy today, tap your phone here — it opens our Google review page and it means a lot to a small shop.”

Professional services

Best moment

At the close of the final meeting or delivery call.

“It’s been a pleasure working together. A short Google review about your experience would help other clients decide — I’ll send the link right now.”

Mistakes that cost you reviews

  • Asking days later, when the good feeling has faded.
  • Sending customers to “Google us and leave a review” instead of a direct link.
  • Offering a discount in exchange — against Google's policy.
  • Only asking customers you think will say something nice.
  • Letting one team member do all the asking instead of training everyone.
  • Never replying to the reviews you do receive.

Google asks businesses to request reviews from all customers equally and never to offer incentives. Following that keeps your reviews genuine — and keeps them published.

Make the ask effortless

A branded TapReview Pro card or counter stand opens your Google review page the second a customer taps it. No searching, no typing, no lost reviews.
